SoTW: Under the Silence
Today’s little ditty comes from Dulce Liquido [wikipedia] which is, it has to be said, an acquired taste so I wouldn’t rush out and buy the album unless you’re really, really sure
(You’ve gotta love genre names like Agrotech, and my favorite, Terror EBM) Anyway, Under the Silence [ITMS] comes from the album Shock Therapy [ITMS] and features a rather cool end verse that I find to be to my taste (musically more than lyrically before you all start analysing me). You can check out some similar stuff over at myspace, although the tunes they have on there at the moment are a lot more monotonous (Antichritianos is the best on there at the moment)
No commentsThe nightmares are pursuing us
They are under the silence in dreams
Their cruelty is part of their pleasure
You’re in fear, screaming in fear
Eeep!
So the BBC are reporting about a bloke who got done for ranting on his blog. OK, so he was a known criminal being nasty/making threats about a police persons new baby which, on a scale of 1 to insane, rates about 14 billion but it is a little worrying… especially when you consider my views on dealing with the worlds problems. Hey well, I’m an equal opportunities ranter who doesn’t really pick on any one group of people (on this blog at least, and that one has a disclaimer) and I’m sure it’s not a crime to hate everyone ![]()
SoTW: Special Cat Edition
Since Cat is probably not in the right frame of mind to be listening to depressing FLA tracks I present her with an alternate track to listen to: the KPMG corporate song. For those thinking it’s a little lame there are remixes to be found here and here (for a very silly version). Beware, much cheese. ![]()
somewhere random
I’ve relaunched somewhere random as a place to show all my photographs. notes from… is now a photography blog, images from… a gallery of my photos and somewhererandom.com a portal to the two. I’ll be adding photographs at quite a pace for the first few weeks as I’ve got a fair few old ones to upload, after that I’d just add it to your RSS reader as updates will really depend on how often I get my camera out and take good photographs (could be a while as the camera done quench at the moment).
As promised pictures from my recent holiday can be found in the cromer zoo section and in this blog post.
Enjoy ![]()
Loans
OK, this has been sitting in my inbox for a while (well, an email with the url in it has) because I was just gobsmacked at how utterly stupid some people were. Let me give you the gist of the story: Low paid person gets into debt, can’t make the repayments, gets a consolidation loan, doesn’t pay the original debt, now left with more. And this isn’t a one of isolated case either, it’s 26% of people getting consolidation loans. How stupid are these people, and how stupid are the organisations lending to them? Hello?! The financial sector has just lost an absolute butt load of money (billions of dollars) doing something silly with lending money to poor people so they could buy houses and not pay the money back.
Everyone involved in this sorry mess is on my list. That’s the idiots borrowing more money to not pay off th old debt and the morons lending to them in the first place. The people involved in advertising the consolidation loans are on a special list reserved for pedophiles and people who stand on the left on escalators.

The internet is a great thing. There was a song played on Friday which I quite like but don’t know what it’s called. I do know its got a stomping beat (so it’s going to be EBM) and has dalek type vocals in bits. So I Googled for ‘ebm sounds like daleks‘, the first result, right at the bottom of the page suggested Rotersand, Exterminate, Annihilate, Destroy so I went to the iTunes Music Store, searched for the same, discovered it was the tune I was after and bought the EP which was then downloaded onto my computer. Marvelous
You can hear a clip of it from the bands website. Incidently Cat, and anyone else who fancies coming next week, there is a good chance this will get played at Sedition ![]()
Mountain of a task
Today I’ve been mostly explaining to people that a mountain is “In England and Wales the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has defined “mountain” (as a mass noun) as all land over 600 metres for the purposes of right to roam legislation.” [Wikipedia] not, as it has been claimed, a pile of paperwork or a mound of dirt. Now, you may think I am making a mountain out of a molehill with this issue but I feel we should not over exaggerate and should be accurate in our description of things. Besides, acording to this article, it would require a shed load of molehills to make one mountain ![]()
‘Phones
OK, so the v-moda vibe duo headphones for the iPhone (at £65ish) look the business, sound great and die after about a month with serious use (I know, I’ve killed 3 pairs already). The mic also sucks a bit, but most inline mics do. Anyway, they can’t turn round the warranty requests fast enough for me to have a working pair at all times and I’ll be buggered if I’m giving them any more of my money.
Lets try Apples in ear offerings. Cheapish (£25), fit the iPhone but lack the mic and button to skip tracks, don’t fit my ears properly (although ironically enough when I replaced the sleeves with ones from the v-moda headphones they fitted a treat, and every time the naff white cable hits or rubs your clothes you hear it in the headphones.
So, next step, Shure do these lovely little adapters that convert bog standard headphones into headphones with a mic that fit the iPhone nicely. Given I had a set of in ear headphones that could be removed from their lead and plugged into this one and given the adapter costs about £20odd I though I would give it a go. Works a treat, although the mic is a tad on the large side. Problem was my headphones were £9.99 ones and they lacked the bass response of the v-moda headphones.
Sod it, throw another £70 at Shure and order the SE110’s. The sound is pretty much as good as the v-moda ones although they’re not quite as bassy. Ordered through the Apple store they should be with me in a few days once they’ve done their grand tour.
Meanwhile I go for a wonder over to a shop that does ipody things near work to go look at an iPod shuffle (wanted to compare it side by side to the iPhone, it’s a bit thinner and wider, but otherwise pretty much the same) and discovered that they had Shure SE310’s priced as Shure SE210’s (they also had SE310’s priced as SE310’s). Thats £99 instead of £165. I decided to chance it, took the mispriced ones to the till and, when I was told it was £165, turned the box over to show the £99 price tag. I also explained there was more than one set priced at this price. I think the guy must have thought they were 210’s as he said something about them needing the price changed while he changed the amount required to £99. I paid, grabbed my purchase and legged it just as the manager was explaining to the sales assistant that the 210’s weren’t on display so how could they be priced up as 310’s.
When my 110’s arrive I’ll send them straight back. I now have a storming set of headphones that sound better than anything I’ve ever heard before (with the exception of a £20,000 Linn stereo in an acoustically perfect room). Problem is I can now hear when a song has been ripped at lower (or even medium) bit rates. I wonder what the SE530’s sound like. They’ve got 3 speakers per ear and cost £350. Somehow I don’t think I’ll be finding out any time soon.
3 commentsFriday Night (Part 1)
For some reason I’ve become the official chronicler of last weeks litte gathering which is rather ironic since I’ve been hideously busy and unable to write anything until today.
Anyway, since Cat has been having a bit of a naff time of things recently she asked (half jokingly I think) if anyone fancied a beverage with her. Us being us we all said yes and Blue organised us for last Friday, unfortunately she couldn’t make it (and God knows what happened to Pinky and The Boy
) which is why she’s been hassling me to write this up.
Bathgirl and I pitched up to the Pub at 5:15 and promtply set to on the water and lemonade (both of us have screwed kidneys so neither of us drink) which were consumed with great gusto. By about 6 I was busting for the loo but couldn’t leave as I was the only one who people would recongnise. About 6:30 when Time Traveller (Ms20), Perpetual arrived so I said my hellos and snuck off to the loo. Cataclismical chose that moment to call so I was forced to hang up on her (sorry, I don’t do phone calls while I’m peeing). Anyway, I got back in touch with her once I was no longer in danger of having my bladder rupture, discovered she was just down the road with her litle sister and guided her into the pub.
Having already met random people from the talkers I used to run, User Friendly and WoW I’m no stranger to meeting people who I’ve only ever had electronic contact with. I think TT thought it was a little weird but her claimed shyness wasn’t evident. Drinks were consumed, chatting ensued and fun was had.
Just to add some excitement to the proceedings Perp popped out to the cash machine, got distracted (”Excuse me mate, did you drop a fiver?“), had his card swipped and many hundreds of spondoolies nicked from it before he canceled it. Since Bathgirl managed to withdraw cash from the same area I’ll leave it to her post detailed instructions on how to withdraw cash without getting done
So, yes. Perp and TT had food, the rest of us just drank. Apparently I have a posher accent than people think, but I’m just like I am on my blog. TT is slightly shorter than I thought, and much cuter than her photos give her credit for
Perp was nothing like any of us thought he was going to be :) Cat’s sister thinks we’re all a bit strange and Bathgirl is Bathgirl.
Good laugh, and I’m up for doing it again (hopefully Blue and others can make it this time). Cat suggested next time we go for food somewhere which I think is a splendid idea.
