Jesus Phone 2.0
OK people, lets get this one straight: Origami is not the future. It never has been the future. It never will be the future. I’m looking at you Pig Boy. The iPhone. That is the future. And there is a new shiny version out with three whole G, instead of the two and a half it used to have, well four actually if you count the G in GPS too. Hmmm, and there is a G in GRPS. Look, it’s got a stack load more G’s than it used to have. And I want one.
However.
I have no idea what the dealy is for people who already own one and just want to get a new handset. I’m kind of hoping I can keep my current contract and just but the new one, then if it breaks I can use the old one while the new one is repaired. And there is also the problem that I spent *mumble mumble mumble* pounds this weekend (no, chuggabopps the stuff I spent on your was budgeted for so don’t worry, this is the insane amounts of money I spent on Saturday and Sunday… and yesterday… and maybe a smidge today buying songs for Rock Band
). Given I spent my entire spending money budget for the month in a little over 3 days I may have to wait a bit before I get my hands on a shiny new phone ![]()

I’ve seen the future - it’s an iPhone made out of paper.
I really, really, really want one! But At&T’s data charge is a little high. Have to wait a while I guess
It’ll cost you £99 if you extend your contract by 18 months from now… or nothing if you go back to the £45 contract you had before.
You get to keep the old one, and I believe they’re making suggestions to convert existing O2 contracts to use it, or maybe just get a PAYG SIM.
It’s available from July 11, so maybe that’s next month’s budget.
Dan, you’ve just made The List
Cheers Goron. o2 also texted me to tell me
You haven’t replied about curry on Friday.
Ah, maybe you sent it to my work address and I haven’t been at work since last Thursday …
Having seen Origami (sister’s boyf has one) I find it’s name is apropriate, it’s flimsy, uses old technology, is easily folded and should have been screwed up and binned some time ago…
But what do I know?
In the mean time I may be able to get my very own shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny toy….
Dom - Mission accomplished
On a more serious note though - surely having competition in the UI space is a good thing?
I’ve never subscribed to the “oh I must have this because it’s an Apple” theory, instead going for the “I must have this because it’s the best product at the time of purchase” approach. Sometimes that means Apple, sometimes it doesn’t!
Goron - I did send it to your work address. I assume we’re still on.
Bathgirl - don’t you need to sort out getting somewhere to live first?
Dan - I agree. I’m looking forward to being able to ‘legally’ install third party apps on the thing. The lack of a todo list is very annoying for starters.
you seem to be taking this phone thing very seriously- whats wrong with the one you have? is it broken? if not surely you are best to continue for the timer being and let other people find the flaws in it for you, rather than agonise over such conspicuous comsumption.
but what do i know- i am still in the dark ages compared to you.
am glad you can budget these days- not sure you should say i am a budgeted for item (?) but glad none the less.
Erm.. the phone I have isn’t the latest iPhone
And it wasn’t so much agonising as lamenting the fact I might have to wait a while before I can upgrade. As it is it’s only £99 and that’ll be next month anyway so it shouldn’t be a problem
And you know what I mean - I didn’t go out and recklessly spend money on you leaving myself short like I would have done in the old days… assuming I had any money back then
Dom, yes we’re still on - you paying? My employer just lost $2.8bn… ok, that’s nothing to the nearly $50bn your ex employer lost, but I’m still therefore skint
Going dutch I thought. And when did they loose another $12bn? I thought it was $37.4bn or something like that.
That’s just what they expected you to think
I think they may be about to announce another $10bn loss due to the monorails, I think they invested in the Shelbyville one.
I cant believe you’re considere the iPhone 2.0 given the amount of whinging about the problems with iPhone 1.0, lack of todo list etc etc. What you should do is get a paper pad for your todo list. This has the added advantage that once you’ve completed a list you can use your origami skills to turn the old list into a paper iPhone, which really is the future….
I seem to remember I’ve been one if the iPhones biggest fans. Yes, it has flaws, but it’s the best mobile device I’ve ever owned. Full stop. I have great expectations for the second coming.
Enough with the origami now otherwise I will be pitching up for coffee tomorrow armed to the teeth and making sure The Wharf gets on the news
