The outpourings of a deranged mind

Holiday

So I’ve officially had notice served. Due to the length of time I’ve worked there my notice period is longer than I thought it was so I’m effectively getting another 8 weeks paid holiday instead of the 4 or so I was expecting. Given the two weeks I’ve just had we can, all in all, say that we are a most happy bunny. If I need to I can bring the termination date forward but, unless I get a very good offer from somewhere else, I don’t think I’ll be taking them up on that offer :-)

And, no, no amount of jealousy or hatred is going to penetrate my shield of smugness. To the majority of you all I can say is: Ha! You’re at work :-P

God I love my life sometimes :-D

That’s pretty sweet. And I’m in the minority with you :)

    yay!

Though there is something wrong here in that I’m not at work and I really want to be ;-)

Yes, but Des, you live for work and you don’t have the luxury of being able to piss about for a year like I do. I think I’d want to be back at work if I were in your situation.

You taking any bets on just how long it is before you start climbing the walls through boredom? Got any plans for a world tour or something?

I have always thought that the life of the insanely rich (or is that insane and rich?!?) must be quite hollow - especially bearing in mind that everybody else has that minor inconvenience called work getting in the way of potential social stuff…

Not that you’re insanely rich right now. Moderately perhaps ;)

Iwas going to comment ont his last night via my Blackberry, but it wouldnt let me, which was annoying. I also cant remember what I was going to say, but I’m sure it was both witty and cutting.

I’m willing to place good money on me having a new job before I get bored. I am actually very good at occupying myself and I shall be paying myself to learn new stuff and do photography once my gardening leave is over.

gibbja, that’ll teach you for using crappy overhyped technology. You want to use proper overhyped technology that lets you post comments and has a bigger screen. I’m sure you were going to be very witty and cutting. You’re still at work though. HA!

Does my iPAQ 210 qualify as crappy overhyped technology too?

  8. Dom May 22nd, 2008 11:03 pm

    People still use iPAQ’s?

  9. danderdandan May 22nd, 2008 11:31 pm

    Oh yes..

Better screen than a blackberry, unlimited 3G data via my phone (token fee), WIFI via Openzone and all their roaming partners (free through work), full Exchange RPC sync (including corp. directory - v.useful!), Word, Powerpoint, Excel, MOC (for corp. IM anywhere), pocket MSN (for internet IM anywhere), Media Player (backup for when the music stops on my iPod) and all sorts of other goodies I use to save me having to think at work. And the battery lasts days!

Yeah, so it costs a couple of quid more than something like an Axim, but I was feeling flush that month.

I came from an HTC Windows Smartphone, so this is just a natural progression.. The advantage of this is that weekends I can leave it at home and just take my (small) phone out on it’s own..

I can live with the ridicule!

So you need to carry an iPod and a phone about too. Not convinced. Get a Jesus Phone instead :D

  11. danderdandan May 23rd, 2008 11:01 am

Methinks you miss the point :) :

Work days = Have got a bag, can easily carry multiple things around. No compromises made in technology or access modality.

Non work days = have pockets, tiny 3G phone (on it’s own) is fine!

  12. Dom May 23rd, 2008 11:40 am

Nooo. iPhone, fits in the pocket all the time and allows you to listen to music, watch TV, surf the web, email, phone, etc :D

  13. danderdandan May 23rd, 2008 11:51 am

You clearly have larger pockets than me then!

  14. Dom May 23rd, 2008 12:02 pm

No at all. You must have teeny tiny pockets if it wont hold a Jesus Phone :)

  15. danderdandan May 23rd, 2008 12:06 pm

That’ll be due to all the space being taken up by my keys, Activcard token, Oyster Card, and bulging wallet full of cash. :D

  16. Dom May 23rd, 2008 12:08 pm

Wallet bulging with cash and keys live in left pocket, oyster card lives in back pocket, iPhone in right pocket. I have no idea why you’d want to cary an Activcard token with you :)

  17. danderdandan May 23rd, 2008 12:22 pm

Keeping the oyster in my back pocket would quickly lead to it becoming broken (plus I don’t keep anything in my back pockets).

Keys and phone do not mix (obviously).

As to the Activcard - it lives with the keys or else I’d quite rapidly lose it (+ I need it for “emergencies”).

  18. Dom May 23rd, 2008 1:07 pm

    Meh - it’s just excuses :P

  19. danderdandan May 23rd, 2008 1:17 pm

Just goes to show that we’re definitely not the same person after all!!!
