Gym: The saga continues
OK, so I’ve been going to the gym regularly at least twice a week month for a quantity of time now and I’m pleased to report the following:
- I now weigh over 2Kg
lessmore than I did when I started. - I now have the physique of an Olympic
100m butterfly swimmerpie eater. - I now have the stamina of a
marathon runner100 year old 120 a day smoker.
Yes, clearly something isn’t quite going right here. Obviously I am not pushing myself hard enough and need to work on blasting my lats (whatever the hell that means) or something, but since I’m unlikely to stop doing what I’m doing already I’m going to have to resort to checking the pennies (more on that in a later post) and getting me a personal sadist to show me what I should be doing. That way I can find out that perhaps the gym isn’t for me, continue paying them £30odd a month to use the pool twice a year and not bother about how fat I get ![]()

Dom - what gym do you go to? I’m with LA Fitness (Not that I ever go) but they will do your programme for free and assess you every 2 months for free… no need for a trainer…
I’m also at LA Fitness, but I’d also like to get a trainer for one or two sessions as there are some quite specific things I’d like to work on (need to get my sword arm strong :D)
LA Fitness, yes… I’m with them, almost bought the ‘if your lifestyle includes travel…’ package until I found out that travel to them is only all over the US, and travel to me means a bit further a field (culturally rather than distance notably).
Anyway. Personal sadist, can’t recommend them highly enough. I go see one 3 times a week now to make me do the technical bits and then just go in and either run or swim 2 or 3 times a week in addition to get the cardio side of things done.
The weight loss is a bit of an odd one, if you’re training hard you’ll build muscle and that’s denser than fat, so uh, expect to see weight gain/stable unless you really have a lot to loose. I’m down about an inch and a bit around the waste but weight up slightly. Weight and BMI are a rubbish measure of progress focus on how you look and feel
I look like I eat too many pies. I feel like an old man.
