The outpourings of a deranged mind

Midwinter Solstice Period

So my brother has been bitching that my anti-Christmas stance is selfish, although what he really means is he wants a gift from me which really goes to prove my point that Christmas these days is all about consumerism. Anyway, I’ve capitulated and purchased a small gift for each of my [exceedingly large and overly complex] immediate family members (over and above the stuff I already got for my niece and nephew because, lets face it, Christmas is for kids and it’s a little cruel to exclude them  for the sake of  principle).

I shall give everyone 1 years notice this time round. Everything I get this year is being reclassified as a house warming gift.  Anything I get next year will be classified as landfill. If you really must get me something then give the money to charity or something. I will not be purchasing gifts for anyone over the age of 18 next year.

So just to be clear you would be putting the iPhnone into landfill if you hadnt reclassified it as a housewarming gift. I’m slightly concerned about your word play which seems to result in me not getting anything from you. And I was so looking forward to getting that Leona Lewis album.

Also, while I’m on classification, I think this is more of a rant than a rambling….

I told you, you can go get yourself whatever you want - you follow your traditions, I’ll follow mine. You got me the iPhone before I decided not to do Christmas so it’s your own fault :P And it’s not really a rant, there was none of the fire and anger I have behind rants.

So it’s a temporal thing then is it. I still say it’s a rant, the fire and anger is there, just held in check waiting for a final explosion…

Nah - just a sort of resigned indifference to the whole thing.

Well done you. I’ve given up objecting to Christmas. I can point out that it’s consumerism to the end of time but some people will continue to claim that it’s a religious time. It isn’t, as you know, it’s an old pagan festival rebranded to make an odd Jewish cult look better. Still, my resistance has proven futile so I resign myself to a frugal January in order to pay for things that aren’t needed or particularly wanted.

    *sigh*

Hmmm - maybe the fire and anger is there - have emailed the comment I was going to put here home in order to turn it into a full fledged post since it’s getting just a wee bit long :D
